The Princess Club
LIFE-LONG RELATIONSHIPS
Community members are trained as mentors, meeting in small groups for up to 13 weeks at a time. Developing safe, healthy relationships leads to community transformation.
LEARNER-BASED
The Princess Club curriculum uses an learner-focused teaching method called Dialogue Education. Instead of lecture, Club participants are given learning 'tasks' to help them grow.
COUNTERING LIES WITH THE TRUTH
As part of the adaptation process, the curriculum will be tailored to deal directly with "lies" believed in the community about girl's worth and identity. Each week's lesson will deal directly with a like, replacing it with truth that can be practiced and applied during the lesson.
ADAPTED FOR EACH COMMUNITY
Partner programs work with Echo International staff to ensure the curriculum fits the environment and needs of community.
WHY "THE PRINCESS CLUB"?
Every Club is adapted to the local culture. When helpful, the title “Princess Club” is used. Upending the typical fairy tale motif that "princesses" are weak or reliant on others, the Princess Club empowers girls with their true identity and value. Instead of searching for a prince to give her value, girls in the Princess Club learn of their own intrinsic value, and discover what healthy love looks like. Using the motif of “Princess”, participants learn that, much like a child cannot change her heritage, a true princess has value and worth inherent in who she is.
