The League of Heroes

Why and How to Mentor Boys?

IDENTITY LEADS TO PURPOSE

The identifiable greatest need of a boy is to learn his purpose and know he can move toward that. This comes from knowing who he is and receiving that identity and purpose from his Father. The League of Heroes offers every boy that chance, through a variety of creative ways. Since many boys do not have fathers who can provide this to them, powerful options include: introducing boys to their Heavenly Father (when possible) or standing in for their Father and providing male role models.

HEALTHY SOCIAL DYNAMICS

The power of mentoring, multiplied by small group relationship development. Both mentor and mentee relationships grow, alongside healthy group dynamics. Interpersonal healing and new, healthy relationships can form.

Echo International mentoring groups, unless otherwise specified, meet in groups of 6-8 children with two mentors. A round of curriculum lasts about 13 weeks, or one semester. Developing safe, healthy, long-term relationships leads to community transformation.

LIFE-LONG RELATIONSHIPS

A local community member makes the best mentor for a child. They understand local culture and will be around longer than someone from the outside. This is why Echo focuses on training local people to mentor the children in their communities.

HIGHLY-EFFECTIVE MENTOR MATERIAL

The League of Heroes mentoring curriculum is centered on the learner completing learning tasks alone or with the group, trying new information on before deciding how to apply it to their own life. This pedagogy is often called Dialogue Education. It originated in Latin America, and is successfully used world-wide across many cultures. Echo International designs all its curriculum using this style, as it has proved so effective over our ten year history.

ADAPTED FOR EACH COMMUNITY

Partner programs work with Echo International staff to ensure the curriculum fits the environment and needs of community

INTERESTED?

Echo International works in partnership with individuals and organizations supporting children around the world. Another way we work in partnership is in the design of our materials. Currently a group of interested individuals with experience working with boys is gathering to meet and share ideas on how best to cultivate understanding of identity and purpose in young men.
